Week 5: Sejahtera Concept

Exploring the Sejahtera Concept for Sustainable Development at Dar al-Hikmah Library

On Tuesday, 5 November 2024, my group, Zerowaste Visionaries, spent the morning at the Dar al-Hikmah Library in IIUM. From 10 am to 12 pm, we dived into books, references, and exhibition materials to learn about the Sejahtera Concept and how it connects to sustainable development.

We even took some fun group photos with books related to the topic (you’ve got to love a good library photo op!). It was a productive and inspiring session, and we walked away with some key takeaways.

Personal View

1. It’s All About Balance

The Sejahtera Concept is big on finding balance—not just in life, but in how we approach sustainability. It teaches us that true well-being comes from harmony between our spiritual, economic, and environmental needs. In short, it’s not just about chasing money or material success. It’s also about respecting the environment, taking care of our physical and emotional health, and staying connected to our values.

2. Development Isn’t Just About Money

One of the coolest things about Sejahtera is how it redefines “development.” It’s not just about building skyscrapers or growing the economy. It’s about a more holistic kind of progress—one that takes care of the environment, protects culture, and makes life better for everyone. It’s a reminder that success isn’t just measured in profits; it’s also measured in the quality of life for people and how we care for the planet.

3. Teamwork Makes the Dream Work

Sejahtera is all about working together. It focuses on community-centered solutions, where we prioritize what’s good for everyone, not just a few individuals. This approach is so relevant for global issues like climate change and poverty, where teamwork and collective action are the only way forward. For us as students, it’s a reminder to stay collaborative and work together to create solutions that benefit everyone.

Final Thoughts

Spending time at the library really opened our eyes to how powerful the Sejahtera Concept is. It’s not just about theory; it’s a way of living and thinking that can guide us in making real changes for a sustainable future.

As Zerowaste Visionaries, we’re inspired to bring these lessons into our project of turning food waste into compost. Who knew library sessions could be so eye-opening and motivating?

If you haven’t explored the Sejahtera Concept yet, I highly recommend it—it’s definitely worth learning about!
